DAEJEON, South Korea — Leaders from the 1st Signal Brigade and its subordinate units, the 304th Expeditionary Signal Battalion-Enhanced, 41st Signal Battalion, United States Army Communications-Information Systems Activity-Pacific and Regional Cyber Center-Korea, visited the Republic of Korea(ROK) Army Signal School in Daejeon Oct. 26 for a friendship exchange.

The visit aimed to lay the groundwork for future cooperation between U.S. and ROK signal units and to build mutual understanding of each nation’s signal branch training development.

ROK Army Brig. Gen. Lee Jae-seung, the ROK Signal School Commandant, welcomed the 1st Signal Brigade delegation. During a meeting with Lee and the school’s department directors, the delegation discussed the school’s organization, facilities and curriculum, then held a question-and-answer session. Col. Edward J. Minor, Commander of the 1st Signal Brigade, and his team explained U.S. Army signal training and compared it with the current state and future direction of the ROK Signal School’s curriculum. They also asked about the school’s plans to incorporate AI and its relationships with private industry.

Later in the day, the school demonstrated equipment used in its courses, including the High Capacity Radio Terminal, the Mission Command System Access Point and satellite communications systems. The group then moved to the ROK Cyber Training Center for a briefing on its training programs and a tour of the facility. Questions from both sides pushed each session past its scheduled time.

Maj. Lee Hae-jin, ROK Officer of the 1st Signal Brigade, who planned the visit, said, “This visit was a meaningful opportunity for the ROK and U.S. signal units to gain firsthand understanding of each other’s training systems and to explore practical ways to cooperate.”

Lee added, “Going forward, we will continue to share the latest communications technologies and training know-how through regular reciprocal visits and exchanges, and we will strive to contribute to strengthening our capability to conduct combined ROK-U.S. signal operations.”
